Jackson County Conservation manages 38 individual parks, natural areas, timber preserves, historic sites, river accesses, and campgrounds; encompassing over 2,200 acres across the county. Jackson County is located in eastern Iowa along the Mississippi River.

Spend a day at the Hurstville Interpretive Center learning about our woodlands, prairies, wetlands, history, and your place in the natural world from our 20+ activities and exhibits. Talk with our friendly Environmental Education staff and ask your questions. Enjoy paddling, hunting, fishing, hiking and more at our various parks.

Activities in Jackson County

Jackson county offers unique and exciting activity options.

The Mississippi River and its tributaries offer excellent fishing, paddling and boating. As a part of the driftless landscape, the exposed limestone provides unique  hiking, biking, birding, horseback riding, backpacking, and rock climbing opportunities. In addition, we manage nine hunting areas throughout the county. 

 

Facilities in Jackson County

Jackson County provides both primitive and modern facilities to meet your needs. We manage the Hurstville Interpretive Center, two modern campgrounds, bike trail, marina, and historical structures such as a one-room schoolhouse and the Hurstville Lime Kilns. In addition, we maintain trails, shelters, boat ramps and primitive campsites.
