Sharon Bluffs State Park


Sharon Bluffs State Park boasts beautiful bluffs along the Chariton River. It acts at headquarters to the Appanoose County Conservation offices.

Located a short drive east of Centerville along the Chariton River.

Sharon Bluffs State Park offers a variety of options for guests.

The Nature Center at Sharon Bluffs contains an extensive collection of live and mounted wildlife of Iowa. 

Three miles of hiking trails are perfect for viewing the river, searching for spring woodland flowers, and foraging for fall mushrooms.

Six campsites offer 30 amp service. At the entrance of the park is the filling and dump station for campers.

Three CCC buildings are still in use and include the shelter house with a fireplace, and 2 pit latrines.

A playground is located near the shelter and campground and is fun for all ages.

A second park entrance leads to a boat ramp.



Operating Hours & Seasons

Sharon Bluffs State Park is open year-round to campers. Day use is 6:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.

Trails are open all year with the exception of January when trails are closed as an inviolate refuge.

The Nature Center at Sharon Bluffs is typically open Tuesday - Friday, 2:00 - 5:00 p.m., and Saturday, 11:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. It is recommended that guests call ahead of time to make sure the nature center will be open, or to make an appointment to view the center.
