Hannen Lake Park

Located in beautiful southern Benton County, Hannen Lake is a wonderful getaway

to spend a day fishing and swimming, or an ideal location for your next camping trip.

Hannen Lake Park is BCCB’s largest campground and a hotspot for fishermen and

hikers in Benton County offering 71 campsites, a beach, a rustic cabin, and several

picnic areas. Hannen Lake Park offers open air shelters, shower houses, boat ramp,

kayak launch, beach area, and playgrounds.

There are 218 acres of woodland and prairie that surrounds this 45 acre lake. This

lake is recognized as the first County Conservation built lake in Iowa. BCCB began

creating a county park after acquiring this site from members of the Hannen family in

1958. Construction of the 40 acre lake began in 1960 and required moving over

56,000 cubic yards of earth, placing 1,350 tons of stone rip rap, and constructing

a 600 foot long dam.
