Ages 10-14

9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Bring along your camera or smart phone to capture the beauty of the numerous springs and waterfalls near Decorah. We plan to visit Malanaphy Springs State Preserve and Dunning Springs Park. If time allows we will stop by the Decorah Fish Hatchery/Bald Eagle Nest. (Just in case...have your kids bring along a few quarters to buy fish food for the trout). At each site we will allow time for photography and then put the cameras in a dry bag. Then we will guide the campers along the waterfall to play & splash.

Please Note: All kids are asked to show up to camp wearing their swimsuits underneath shorts and t-shirts or wear quick dry-clothing. We ask that they wear grubby tennis shoes or hiking shoes in the morning (for our half hour hike to the 1st waterfalls), but also pack along water sandals or water shoes (for playing in the shallow parts of the waterfalls). NO Flip-flops!!! They also need to pack an entire change of clothing for the ride home.

Packing List: camera or smartphone, older shoes for hiking, water sandals/water shoes (no flip-flops), large bath towel, entire change of clothing in a plastic bag, large sack lunch, lunch drink, 1 or 2 water bottles, afternoon snack (one that is easy to eat in the van), sunscreen, bug spray/wipes (optional), Backpack/Zip-up Bag/Canvas Bag, Quarters to buy fish food, hat or sunglasses (optional).

Bring something to do in the van! It will take 1.5 hours to get to Decorah. We ask that kids bring along quiet activities to do in the van (coloring books, comic books, doodle pads, books, Mad Libs, tablets with headphones, music with headphones).

We are super excited to offer this new summer camp! It will be refreshing, beautiful, and high adventure. Along with that adventure comes some risk when we are walking on slippery rocks. Remind your child that they will be given specific safety instructions to follow and given boundaries of where they can and cannot go while at the waterfalls. Thanks in advance for sharing this information with your child prior to the camp day. It's gonna be a fun time going to nature's splash pad!

To stay on schedule, please check your child in at: Black Hawk County Conservation Board Headquarters (1346 W. Airline Highway, Waterloo) between 8:45 and 9:00AM.

Only 15 spots available in the vans & they are going fast. Sign up now!
