In the 58 years since its beginnings the Carroll County Conservation Board has made great strides for conservation and outdoor recreation. Some of the milestones include: several land acquisitions, development of recreation facilities, expansion of Swan Lake State Park, and Environmental Education Program development. There are 24 county-managed recreation areas in Carroll County ranging from 510-acre Swan Lake Park to 2-acre Hazelton Wildlife Area. These areas encompass a wide diversity of uses from trails to canoe accesses to campgrounds to public hunting areas.

Activities in Carroll CountyThe CCCB manages 24 areas totaling 2,500 acres for public use, wildlife habitat, and natural areas. Some popular recreational uses include: picnicking, camping, birding, hunting, fishing, hiking, bicycling, horseback riding, and boating. During the winter months cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and ice fishing are popular.
