Hidden in the Turkey River valley, the Motor Mill Historic Site is a peaceful natural area that features a six-story limestone flouring grist mill and four related stone buildings dating from the late 1860’s. Motor Mill is a historic site on the National Register of historic places and a Silo's and Smokestacks partner site.
Motor Mill park also offers primitive camping, canoe access on the Turkey River, trails for hiking and horseback riders, and bow hunting. For questions regarding camping check our our Clayton County FAQ section here on Mycountyparks, if you are unable to find an answer please call our office! 

Location

Motor Mill is located about 7 miles east of Elkader, Iowa along the Turkey River. 

Features

 A six story limestone mill, cooperage, ice house, inn and stable made of limestone quarried nearby are present. The total site covers 155 acres and has two trails. Guided tours of historic Motor Mill are offered each Saturday (May 28-Sept 3, Sept 17, Oct 1, and Oct 8) from noon-5pm Primitive camping is available for $15.00 per night, there are 5 campsites.
