High School Backpackers Camp

Event Summary

Beautiful Northeast Iowa awaits your high school student with a wilderness experience close to home. We will meet Sunday the 31st of July at 10 AM in the Mississippi River Eco Tourism Center at Rock Creek Park. Participants will lay-out their personal pack items for inspection (outer clothing, survival gear, bags, cameras, snacks, pillows, mats, etc). Experienced naturalists will council participants on appropriate items for the pack. Bring 2 gallon zip-lock bags for better organization of the pack. Once packed we will say good bye to parents and guardians and depart for Yellow River Forest near Marquette Iowa. We'll pack into a remote campsite, set up camp, and day-pack the extensive trail system on Monday. Participants can expect to travel on foot between 10 and 15 miles by the end of the trip.  We'll break camp on Tuesday morning and return to the MRETC at Rock Creek by 6 PM on Tuesday. Be prepared to feed your hungry youth after collecting them that evening.
