A 345 acrea park located along the banks of the Turkey River on the East Side of Elgin, Iowa. This beautiful are is lined with streams and bottomlands surrounded by the palisade limestone bluffs for which norteast Iowa is so famous. The late Millard Gilbertson of Elgin donated the original three hundered and twenty-semve ares to the Fayette County Conservation Board in 1986.
This unique are offers something for everyone with a canoe access, paved 1/4 mile trail that is wheelchair accessible, playgound, shelter house, modern campground with dump sation, sinks, showers, flush toilets and 28 elecrical hook up sites. [1810 Agate Road] Over 5 miles of trails are availble for hikers, non-motorized bikes, horseback riders and in the wintertime cross-country skiing. Parts of the park are open to public hunting. One can fish in the pond or the Turkey River.
