The purpose of the County Conservation Board, as established by law is: "To acquire, develop, maintain, parks and preserves, parkways, playgrounds, recreational centers, county forests, wildlife and other conservation areas, to promote and preserve the health and general welfare of the peoples, to encourage the orderly development and conservation of natural resources and to cultivate good citizenship by providing adequate programs of public recreation “To date the Grundy County Conservation Board manages a total of 18 different areas which include parks, wildlife areas, prairie remnant areas, and a cultural/natural history museum. The mission of the Grundy County Conservation Board is to enhance the quality of all life in the county by preserving, acquiring, and wisely managing our cultural and natural resources, by providing recreational and leisure opportunities, and by educating the citizens to be wise and well informed stewards of the environment.
