The River Otter Cabin, located in Pinicon Ridge Park, is the smaller of the four modern camping cabins offered for reservations within the Linn County parks. These four cabins offer similar but slightly different amentities and capacities - all four provide the following: heating/air conditioning, ceiling fans, microwave, regfrigerator, dining table w/4 chairs, bunk beds, large covered deck, picnic table, fire ring, etc. Please consider the specific amenities below prior to making your selection.

Location

The four camping cabins at Pinicon Ridge Park are located NW of Central City within the family campground complex on the east side of the Wapsipinicon River. The cabins are on a wooded bluff and not subject to flooding. Enter the north park entrance off Hwy. 13/Valley Farm Road and follow the park signs to the Plains Campground/Camping Cabins area - just beyond the sanitary dumping stations.

Amenities

 
  • One room cabin - 350 sq. feet of living space (16' X 22' cabin)
  • Primitive restroom nearby - shower facility available in the main campground (1/2 mile)
  • Sleeps a maximum of 6. Two bunk beds and mattresses (two twin-over-full sized)
  • Kitchenette w/microwave, dorm-sized refrigerator, small countertop, dinette table w/4 chairs, no indoor water - outside spigot only
  • Heat & air conditioning, ceiling fan
  • Large covered porch
  • Picnic table and fire ring w/grill outside
  • Vehicle parking nearby
  • This is an ADA accessible facility


SUPPLIES PROVIDED:

  • Toilet tissue
  • Broom, dustpan & mop
  • Refuse must be removed to nearby dumpster

 

RENTER WILL NEED TO BRING:

  • Complete bedding with pillow, sheets, blankets and/or sleeping bags
  • Complete cooking & eating utensils, dish soap, dish cloths & towels, pot holders
  • Food & beverage supplies
  • All bath linens & toiletries
  • Any radio, television or alarm clocks
  • Lawn chairs (if desired)
  • Firewood (or purchase from park)

Fees

 

  • $42/night
  • Minimum of two consecutive nights rental, three consecutive nights for holiday weekends
  • Maximum stay of 14 days
  • Reservations may be made up to TWO YEARS  to the date in advance
  • Cabin rental must be in the name of a person 18 years of age or older who will be present at the facility for the full term of the reservation. (21 years of age if beer or wine will be present at your event)
  • This overnight fee includes a 5% statewide Hotel/Motel Consumer's Use Tax imposed on the rental of recreational cabins.

There are NO DISCOUNTS for youth groups, seniors or multiple reservations

CLEAN-UP/DAMAGE DEPOSIT REQUIRED -
This facility requires that an additional deposit check in the amount of $50.00 be mailed to the Conservation Officeno later than two weeks prior to the event. It is the responsibility of the user to ensure that this deposit is provided on time. An automated reminder will be sent to the email address of record two weeks in advance of the scheduled event date. Deposits for this facility should be mailed to:

Hours of Operation & Seasons

  • River Otter Cabin is available for reservation sfrom April 1st to November 1st on an annual basis.
  • Reservations may be made up to TWO YEARS in advance of the date.
  • Check-in time may be any time after 3:00 PM on the day of arrival, and check-out time is prior to 1:00 PM on the day of departure.
  • Park hours are 4:00 AM - 10:30 PM, non-registered visitors must exit the park by closing time
  • Reservation users must have the facility and area cleaned and exited by scheduled check-out time.

Closures

  • This area of the park is closed to vehicles during the off-season - November 1st to April 1st. (Weather or ground conditions may slightly expand or contract these dates)
  • Camping cabins cannot be used without an advanced reservation and payment of the required fees.

Permits

  • All Rules & Regulations of the Linn County Conservation Board are in effect
  • All laws of the State of Iowa are in effect
  • Smoking is prohibited
  • Keg beer is prohibited
  • Pets are prohibited inside the cabin
  • Cabin furniture must remain inside the lodge
  • Clean-up of facility must be completed no later than scheduled check-out time
  • Special permits required for erection of special tents, inflatable play equipment, hog roasts, fireworks, carnival-type activities, etc. Please contact the Park Ranger for additional information or permit requirements - (319) 438-6616
