This festival is an annual event held throughout the counties of Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, Kossuth, O’Brien and Palo Alto.

The weekend gets a jump start with a Trumpeter Swan program held at the Mill Creek Lodge on Thursday, May 8th beginning at 6:30 p.m. Come to learn more about this magnificent creature and actually get to touch a live juvenile bird!

On Saturday morning, May 10, at 7:30 a.m. join in the search for migrating songbirds. Meet for a snack of rolls and coffee. Then hit the birding trail. The group will enjoy birding at the Prairie Heritage Center before carpooling to Wanata Park in Peterson.

From 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m, meet at the Prairie Heritage Center to enjoy some crafts, activities, and a bird house building station. Then at 2:00 p.m., visitors can view a fast-paced documentary on the Lost Bird Project.  Learn about 5 birds which have gone extinct in the last 100 years, and how they are linked to our lives now.
Finally, round out the day with an afternoon hike at Waterman Prairie South, stroll through the prairie looking for flowers, frogs and more...

Activities are also planned in Clay, Dickinson, Emmet, Kossuth and Palo Alto County over the entire weekend. For more information on the activities in any of the six counties, contact your local county Conservation Boards.
