Jester Park Shelter 6

Jester Park Shelter #6 is an open air, accessible shelter that offers an excellent view of the Bison and Elk exhibit. Bring the children because just a stones throw away is the Natural Playscape.  With a horseshoe court available, this shelter has something for all ages.  Water and electricity are also available at this shelter. Reservations must be made 5 days in advance of the date of reservation. For example to make a Saturday reservation, you must reserve the facility no later than Tuesday of that week. 

Location

Jester Park is located at 11407 NW Jester Park Drive, Granger.   You will come to a Y intersection approximately one mile into the park.  At the Y intersection go left.  You will travel approximately 2.5 miles of park road before coming to the shelter.  Select the map identifying the location of park shelters found under the "Related Items" section below or click on this link to our website: PARK MAPS

Fees

  • $60/day
  • Reservations may be made up to TWO YEARS to date in advance.
  • Rental must be in the name of a person who is 18 years of age or older who will be present at the facility for the full term of the reservation.
  • If beer or wine will be present at the facility, rental must be in the name of a person who is 21 years of age or older who will be present at the facility for the full term of the reservation.
  • Any renter having keg beer is required to pay a $100 deposit to the Ranger on the day of the event and prior to the beginning of the event.
  • Only one reservation is allowed per day, per shelter.
  • Additional fees may apply with special events.
YOUTH GROUP DISCOUNTS

An organized youth group may reserve Jester Park Shelter #6 on weekends at a discounted rate. Please contact the Conservation Office at (515) 323-5300 for more information or to receive discount.

Hours of Operation & Seasons

  • Shelter #6 is available for reservations from April 15 through October 15.
  • Reservations may be made up to TWO YEARS to date in advance.
  • One may utilize the shelter from 10:00 AM to 10:30 PM.
  • If the shelter is not reserved for a particular date, it is available on a first-come basis.

Closures

Shelter #6 is not available for reservations October 16 through April 14.   Although shelters are not available for reservation from October 16 through April 14, they are available on a first-come, first-serve basis dependent on weather.

Beginning on Monday, March 13th, an interior portion of park road at Jester Park is being closed for two months for construction work connected with the Jester Park Nature Center. The section being closed spans between the Timber Ridge trailhead just past the Youth Campground to the south edge of Discovery Pond.   Park users that want to access the following amenities should enter the park through the back (north side) entrance. Coming in from the south on NW 121st St., turn left onto NW 118th Ave. and follow the curve as it turns into NW 128th St. At the end of this road you will find the back entrance to Jester Park.

Permits

  • All Rules & Regulations of the Polk County Conservation Board are in effect.
  • All laws of the State of Iowa are in effect.
  • Any renter having keg beer or an equivalent quantity of beer, wine, and/or champagne is required to pay a deposit of $100.
  • Polk County Conservation Board's liability insurance excludes the use of aircraft on park property including hot-air balloons, planes, helicopters, ultra-lights, and parachutes.
  • Special Event Permit Application must be completed for such things as dunk tanks; carnivals; erecting large tents; horse-drawn carriages; generators; power saws; chain saws; power tools of any kind; public address system whether fixed, portable or vehicular-mounted; inflatable bouncers; smoker grills; extra picnic tables; extra parking; or weddings.
  • Special events require a 45 day prior approval.
