Yellow Banks Shelter 2

Yellow Banks Shelter #2 is a open-air shelter surrounded by rolling valleys of hardwood timber and provides an overlook of the Des Moines River Valley.  A new accessible restroom was just built at this shelter.  It is also walking distance from the playground and baseball diamond.

Reservations must be made 5 days in advance of the date of reservation. For example to make a Saturday reservation, you must reserve the facility no later than Tuesday of that week. 

Location

Yellow Banks Park is located at 6801 SE 32 Avenue, Pleasant Hill.  After entering the park, you will come to a Y intersection, go left.  Once you come to the ball diamond do not make any turns, you will drive right to Shelter #2.  Select the map identifying the location of park shelters found under the "Related Items" section or by clicking the link to our website: PARK MAPS

Fees

  • $45/day
  • Reservations may be made up to TWO YEARS to date in advance.
  • Rental must be in the name of a person who is 18 years of age or older who will be present at the facility for the full term of the reservation.
  • If beer or wine are present at the facility, rental must be in the name of a person who is 21 years of age or older who will be present at the facility for the full term of the reservation.
  • Any renter having keg beer is required to pay a $100 deposit to the ranger on the day of the event and prior to the beginning of the event.
  • Only one reservation is allowed per day, per shelter.
  • Additional fees may apply with special events.

YOUTH GROUP DISCOUNTS

An organized youth group may reserve Yellow Banks Shelter #2 on weekends at a discounted rate. Please contact the Conservation Office at (515) 323-5300 for more information or to receive discount.

Hours of Operation & Seasons

  • Shelter #2 is available for reservations from April 15 through October 15
  • Reservations may be made up to TWO YEARS to date in advance.
  • One may utilize the shelter from 10:00 AM to 10:30 PM.
  • If the shelter is not reserved for a particular date, it is available on a first-come basis.

Closures

Shelter #2 is not available for reservations October 16 through April 14.  Although shelters are not available for reservation from October 16 through April 14, they are available on a first-come, first-serve basis dependent on weather.

Permits

  • All Rules & Regulations of the Polk County Conservation Board are in effect.
  • All laws of the State of Iowa are in effect.
  • Any renter having keg beer or an equivalent quantity of beer, wine, and/or champagne is required  to pay a deposit of $100.
  • Polk County Conservation Board's liability insurance excludes the use of aircraft on park property including hot-air balloons, planes, helicopters, ultra-lights, and parachutes.
  • Special Event Permit Application must be completed for such things as dunk tanks; carnivals; erecting large tents; horse-drawn carriages; generators; power saws; chain saws; power tools of any kind; public address system whether fixed, portable or vehicular-mounted; inflatable bouncers; smoker grills; extra picnic tables; extra parking; or weddings.
  • Special events require a 45 day prior approval.
