Hitchcock Nature Center, Pottawattamie County

Saturday, September 16, 2017

How in the world do you tag a monarch butterfly? Find out at our brand new Children's Monarch Tagging program at Hitchcock Nature Center. Join us on Saturday, September 16th, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. for this new program.

Designed for younger learners this event is full of hand's on activities, crafts, and learning as we explore the world of the monarch butterfly. Our younger friends will learn more about monarch butterflies, their unusual lifestyle and life cycle, and miraculous migration to Mexico as we teach you how we catch and handle monarchs for research.

This program is specifically designed for families with children age 6 & under. We are also hosting 3 sessions of our all-ages, family friendly program on the 16th as well and families are invited to attend either program. The all-ages program is designed for older learners and will provide more advanced information. For more information on our all ages event please return to our events page.

You are welcome to bring your own butterfly net & we will have nets available for use. We will also have a limited number of butterfly nets available for purchase in the gift shop. Please dress for the weather & don't forget the insect repellent, sunblock, & water as much of this program is outdoors.

Due to the popularity of the program we recommend early registration & remind you that walk-in space may not be available on the day of the event. Thank you for understanding.
