Birding 101 With Nic Salick

Join Pheasants Forever biologist and experienced birder Nic Salick for a beginning birding class on Saturday, September 30th beginning at 7:30 a.m.

Birding 101 will include a classroom and field session and will provide the knowledge and skills for amateur and beginning birders to accurately identify common and notable species found throughout the midwest. Learn to identify song birds and passerines from field marks, song and behavior at Hitchcock Nature Center.

Hitchcock's nearly 1,300 acre park was names Iowa's first "Important Bird Area" by the Audubon Society and features Loess Hills woodland, oak savanna, and open prairie settings providing a broad range of habitats that support a diverse avian population.

This program can accommodate people of all experience levels but is intended for beginning birders with limited or no field experience. Attendees should plan to bring binoculars or scopes to use in class. Please note the field portion of this program will involve pedestrian travel over Loess Hills terrain which may be difficult at times.

The fee for this program is $20.00 per person and includes a copy of The Sibley Field Guide to Birds of Eastern North America for participants to keep. Pre-registration is required as space is limited. Please register online or call 712-545-3283 for more details.

While this event is appropriate for all ages it is not pet friendly. Please leave your canine friends at home. Service animals are always welcome.Please meet at the Loess Hills Lodge at Hitchcock Nature Center.
