Loess Hills Lodge Holiday Open House

Join us for some family fun as we celebrate the season at the Loess Hills Lodge at Hitchcock Nature Center! Visit us during regular business hours for some fun, family activities & appreciate the Loess Hills in winter. The Lodge will be open 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Friday, December 15th and Saturday, December 16th and from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 17th. Stop in and say hello & do a little, last minute holiday shopping throughout the weekend.
We will be serving hot apple cider each day & we have some fun activities planned. There will be a self guided story hike, nature journaling, a winter coloring contest, & an indoor scavenger hunt available during lodge hours all three days. Join us on Saturday, December 17th at 10:00 a.m. for KinderNature: Winter Wonders and learn all the ways animals have adapted to survive in the winter weather. Stay for storytime by the fireplace that afternoon.
Holiday shoppers will enjoy a 15% discount at our gift shop all weekend. We have a great selection of shirts, books, and toys perfect for the holiday giving season. All gift shop items excluding clearance items are included. Annual permits, daily passes, camping & other park fees are also excluded from this discount.
No pre-registration is required for any of the activities included in our holiday open house event. Participants must purchase a $2.00 per vehicle daily entrance pass or have a valid Pottawattamie County Parks annual permit to attend this event. Daily passes may be purchased with exact change or check at the front gate and may be purchased the day of the event. Annual permits may be purchased for $10.00 from staff at any of our parks or at the Loess Hills Lodge at Hitchcock Nature Center during regular business hours. Free will donations are encouraged and will support continued programming opportunities in Pottawattamie County.
