YOUTH FISHING SEMINAR JUNE 17

Posted:5/19/2015 Tama / Otter Creek Lake & Park

It’s wet, it’s wild, a bit slimy perhaps but kids love it! The popular sport of fishing is one that can be enjoyed for a lifetime and provides opportunities to enjoy nature and unwind from day to day stress.

If you know a boy or girl, age 9 to 13, who would like to learn more about fishing, a one day Fishing Basics Seminar will be held on Wednesday, June 17, 2015, at Otter Creek Lake and Park. The seminar is co-hosted by the Tama County Conservation Board and Iowa State University Extension Service in Tama County.   This seminar will benefit the beginning angler and also the child who has already begun fishing. Useful and interesting instruction will be provided during the day including Fishing Safety & Ethics, Fish Biology and Behavior, Locating Fish and Pointers to Improve Success, Different Lures and Baits and Their Use, General Knot Tying, and Casting Techniques.

A popular portion of the day is the casting practice and “casting golf” followed by a one hour “fun fish”. The seminar will be from 8:45 a.m.- 3:15 p.m..

Parents are welcome to attend with their child but counselors and adult supervision will be provided during the entire event. Rods and reels are provided for each participant. There is no charge for the event.

The total number of participants will be limited to 25. To pre-register please call the Extension Office at (641) 484-2703. Reservations must be phoned in by 3:30 p.m., Monday, June 15. PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED!
