County
Frank C. Pellett
Memorial Woods
In 1907 Frank collected
native plants and planted
them in his woodlands
on an old hog lot across
the road from his house.
Frank set this land aside
100 years ago and today
it is southwest Iowa’s
best location to observe
woodland wildflowers,
thanks to the foresight of
Frank C. Pellett.
Hitchcock House
The Hitchcock House was built in 1856 by Rev. George B.
Hitchcock. The Hitchcock House played a major role in moving
freedom seekers to Canada prior to the Civil War. The house is
listed in the National Historic Register, has been accepted as a site
on the National Park Service Underground Railroad Network to
Freedom, and is a National Historic Landmark. The Hitchcock
House is located in the Hitchcock Recreation Area.
