Description

Provides leadership over special projects;  prepares agendas and other materials for meetings; coordinates information and prepares reports and other output.

Coordinates the GIS program for the department; creates and maintains maps and data; trains other staff in uses of GIS and GIS software; coordinates with other county departments using GIS; supports other staff in their requests for maps and GIS information; maintains proficiency in GIS and GPS systems.

Prepares grant proposals to secure additional funding for the county conservation board projects; monitors grant funded projects; prepares paperwork for grant reimbursements.

Monitors and maintains inspection records on conservation easements held by the board; advises director of possible violations of easement covenants.

Develops and leads programs to encourage public involvement in conservation.

Provides law enforcement to county areas assigned; provides public service, first aid and assistance to other peace officers; operates a patrol vehicle; operates firearm and other law enforcement equipment as required; maintains and/or sees that assigned equipment is maintained to proper standards as appropriate; receives and records training as required by the Code of Iowa.

Assists public by answering questions and providing information. Delivers formal and informal talks to the public on conservation, natural resource, and recreation topics; assists environmental education program when needed.

Recommends budget needs and monitors expenditures on assigned projects; assists with preparations of records for budget decisions such as vehicle replacement schedules.

Maintains a record of work accomplished; anticipates and advises Park Superintendent of special problems or concerns.

Performs field work needed for park maintenance.

Participates in operation, improvement and maintenance of lands and facilities, conducts inspections of county lands while on patrol, observes and corrects hazards, performs minor repairs immediately, secures necessary equipment to effect such repairs, advises supervisor of special problems.

Assists and coordinates activities with other agencies, county departments, and the public.



Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with coursework in animal ecology, biology, forestry, natural resources, or related field and moderate experience working in some kind of conservation management, working with fundraising, GIS and GPS systems, or equivalent combinat
