With 625 (+/-) County Conservation Employees and 495 Conservation Board Members - one should not be surprised by the number of affiliate organizations that have established themselves in our first 50 years. Each of these organizations have found a special niche within the natural resource industry in Iowa - creating platforms for networking and promoting professionalism within the county conservation system. I.A.C.C.B. (Iowa Association of County Conservation Boards) The IACCB is a nonprofit organization assisting member county conservation boards in areas such as board member education, public relations, and legislation. The Association's main purposes are to promote the objectives and supplement the activities of conservation boards, exchange information, assist boards and members in program development and provide a unified voice in the legislature. The IACCB employs a part-time Executive Secretary, Don Brazelton and a part-time Office Assistant, Julie Moss. The organization is governed by a nine-member board elected by member counties. I.A.N. (Iowa Assoc. of Naturalists) The Iowa Association of Naturalists (IAN) is a professional organization that promotes the development of skills and education within the art of interpreting the natural and cultural environments. This non-profit group was founded in 1978 and now sustains nearly 200 members across the state.

C.C.P.O.A.(County Conservation Peace Officers Association of Iowa, Inc.) The CCPOA was established in 1985 in order to promote professionalism within the county conservation law enforcement community. Nearly 100% of all CCB peace officers (from the 67 CCBs that employ peace officers) in Iowa make up the membership of the CCPOA. The organization provides 5 annual training events that enable all officers to maintain their minimum mandated in-service educational requirements. The CCPOA coordinates training efforts with the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA) and is a leader in providing quality law enforcement training to its membership. C.C.D.A. (County Conservation Directors Association) Formed in the 1970s, the CCDA is the County Conservation affiliate representing county conservation interests to ISAC (Iowa State Association of Counties). All 99 county conservation directors are eligible to participate in the CCDA. The organization's mission statement is as follows: "To serve people in Iowa's counties by promoting leadership and development of professionals committed to promoting and preserving the health and welfare of people through programs that cultivate understanding of the environment, encourage orderly development of natural resources, and advocate leisure and outdoor recreation.' A.F.I.R.M. (Association For Integrated Roadside Managers) Establised in 1992 to provide organization to the expanding roadside vegetation managment program in Iowa. AFIRM orchestrates a couple of training opportunities each year and provides industry updates and news for its membership.
