This small area of prairie (5 acres) borders a historically significant cemetery. Within this cemetery are veterans of conflicts ranging from the War of 1812 to the gulf war. The prairie itself demonstrates a wide diversity of flora. The L-shaped five acres provides superior upland bird species habitat. The prairie is currently being managed to help control invasive species which are gaining a foothold in the area such as crowned vetch and sumac. Once the invasive species have been controlled, the area may see some broadcast seeding of native prairie species.
This small stretch of prairie contains one of the counties most diverse prairies. This unique, diverse prairie contains species such as compass plant, spider wort, white indigo and gray headed coneflower. Since the area does border a cemetery, when hunting please take note of anyone visiting the cemetery grounds and use caution and respect the rights of those within the confines of the cemetery.
This small stretch of prairie is bordered by private land so please take note of park boundaries and respect private property.
Location
Spring Creek Cemetery is located in Spring Creek Township, Section 12 at the end of the south end of Spring Creek Road. Traveling south on interstate 380 you will find the cemetery located adjacent to the Spring Creek Geologic area. Just 6 miles south of the highway 20 and interstate 380 exchange you take the Jubilee exit to Spring Creek Road. The cemetery is located roughly two miles south on Spring Creek road off of Jubilee. Spring Creek Cemetery is near the corner of Spring Creek and Wellman Road.
