Activities in Butler County

The Butler County Conservation Board manages 5 campgrounds, 9 public hunting areas, 9 refuges and preserves, 21 miles of paved bike trail from Shell Rock to Bristow.  

Professional staff provide programs for schools, youth and special interest groups, care centers and retirement communities, and the general public. Field staff can assist land owners with wildlife habitat planning and implementation.

• Modern campgrounds with 30 and 50 amp service, flush toilets in all campgrounds. Showers available in Heery Woods State Park, Shell Rock Recreational Area, and Beaver Meadows  
• Boat and Canoe Access at Wunsch Memorial Park, Camp Comfort, Heery Woods State Park, Renning Landing, and Shell Rock Park
• Nature Center with display area and public programs
• 21 miles of hard surfaced non-motorized trail
• Public Hunting areas for upland game, waterfowl, and big game
• Public fishing access for largemouth and smallmouth bass, panfish, catfish, walleye and northern pike
• Accessible Fishing access
