September and October are perhaps some of the best months of the year to visit your local county parks! The heat of the summer has passed, nights are cool and frequently we are treated to those gorgeous "Indian Summer" days of Autumn. Many of Iowa's county parks are nestled in scenic locations with water features (pond, lakes, rivers), or other land formations that provide pituresque views of the the surrounding countryside. One doesn't need to traverse the country to New England, or even to the Mississippi River bluffs or the Loess Hills to find a beautiful splash of fall color right in your own backyard!
