Nature Encounter Center at the Willow Lake Recreation Area
Bring the family to see natural history displays, live animals including amphibians and reptiles or visit the touch and see table! A butterfly garden next to the nature center provides information on native plants, shrubs, and trees and ways to attract butterflies and birds to your yard! The nature center and conservation classroom are open 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday.
Harrison County Conservation Board provides conservation education programs for all ages. The goals of conservation education includes:
- To provide programs which interpret local natural resources including plants, animals and physical elements
- To promote the conservation and/or preservation of those resources
- To promote practices which insure a cleaner, safer and healthier environment
- To develop an environmentally responsible citizenry in Harrison County
The Naturalist visits schools in the county every month and provides a wide range of programs to support curriculum and provide hands-on learning. Field trips to the Willow Lake Recreation Area are also offered. Public programs are offered throughout the year with special events including the Arbor Day Open House in the spring and Creepy Campground in the fall.
