Jackson County is located in extreme eastern Iowa - in the "nose" of the state along the Mississippi River. Currently, Jackson County Conservation manages 36 individual parks, natural areas, timber preserves, historic sites, river accesses, and campgrounds - encompassing some 1,997 acres across the county. The new "gem" of the Jackson CCB program is the Hurstville Interpretive Center which opened in 2004.
Jackson County Conservation provides outdoor recreation and education opportunities and encourages the development and conservation of natural resources.
The Jackson County Conservation environmental education welcomes your students or group to a guided tour or program that will allow you to explore woodlands, prairies, wetlands, the history of our uses of natural resources, and our place in the natural world today. The environmental education staff can help you plan a trip to any public area in the county, including but not limited to, the Hurstville Interpretive Center, Maquoketa Caves State Park, and Green Island State Wildlife area.
