Volunteer


Thanks for your interest in volunteering with the Linn County Conservation Department!  We are excited that you are considering becoming a part of our team and we are eager to work with you.  The commitment of volunteers represents a willingness to improve your community now and in the future. The time that you commit represents the belief that volunteering will improve the quality of life in our community.

The Linn County Conservation Department relies heavily on volunteers for fulfilling many aspects of our mission.

INDIVIDUAL VOLUNTEERING


Wickiup Hill Hosts (i.e. greeting visitors, oversight of exhibit area, answering telephone (needed regularly); must be at least 18 years old; background check required)
Abbe Creek Schoolhouse Host (i.e. greeting visitors at school house in Mount Vernon, provide general information about school house (summer only); must be at least 18 years old; background check required)
Special Events (i.e. collecting fees, organizing activity stations for events such as Native American Culture Day, Fall Fest, Operation Releaf (needed on occasion); must be at least 16 years old)
Animal Care (i.e. helping with cleaning and feeding of Wickiup animals (availability based on current volunteers); must be at least 16 years old)
Leading Education Programs (i.e. helping Wickiup Hill staff with school/adult field trips, public programs (need based on skillset of volunteer); must be at least 18 years old; background check potentially required)
Administration/Office Help (i.e. stuffing envelopes, folding brochures at Wickiup Hill (needed on occasion) ; must be at least 16 years old)
Archaeology (i.e. helping with archaeology digs (needed on occasion); must be at least 16 years old; background check potentially required)
Craft Preparation (i.e. helping cut, glue, color educational supplies at Wickiup Hill (needed on occasion); must be at least 16 years old)
Community Events (i.e. helping with public relations at farmers markets and fairs (needed on occasion); must be at least 18 years old)
Morgan Creek Arboretum & Butterfly Garden (i.e. helping to maintain the trees and garden area (needed spring, summer, fall); must be at least 16 years old)
Campground Hosts (i.e. living on site at campground, helping park staff with visitor needs (availability based on current number of volunteers); must be at least 18 years old; background check required)
Bluebird Box Monitor (i.e. visiting bluebird boxes to check for bluebird use and any disruption (availability based on current volunteers); must be at least 16 years old)
Field/Trail Work (i.e. doing prairie restoration, invasive species removal, weeding (needed early spring); must be at least 16 years old)


GROUP VOLUNTEERING


The Linn County Conservation Department has many opportunities for groups of all ages and sizes.  Past group projects have included trash removal along trails; helping to build steps in a park; painting and staining projects, building blue bird houses; invasive species removal and more.

If you are interested in a project in a particular park, please contact the park staff directly to organize details.  Contact information is below for the park staff.
