Geocache & Earthcache Bash


Event Summary

What is Geocaching? How do you Earthcache? Find out at Hitchcock Nature Center's first annual Geocache and Earthcache Bash. Check out one of our GPS units to learn how to enter coordinates called waypoints, track your route, and navigate using an electronic compass. An introduction to both Geocaching and Earthcaching will take place from 10:00 - 10:30 a.m. This informational session is meant to become familiar with the GPS units' features and operation. From 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. choose between adventuring on a geocaching scavenger hunt through the hills or a guided earthcaching hike to one of Hitchcock's remnant prairies. All experience levels are welcome, including participants who would like to navigate using their own GPS units. 20 GPS units will be available to check out on a first-come, first-served basis. Pre-registration is required by Wednesday, July 18th. Cost: $4.00 per person. Please call 712-242-1197 to pre-register. Weather permitting.
