Hoskins Wildlife Area

Donated to the Adair County Conservation Board by Wilbur (Pete) Hoskins in 2010, this 120-acre tract contains a 2-acre pond stocked with bluegill and largemouth bass. 23-acres planted to native prairie grasses and forbs provide excellent wildlife habitat for pheasants and quail. Public hunting and fishing are permitted.

As part of a nationwide effort to improve the Monarch butterfly population, ACCB partnered with the Iowa DNR and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to create new butterfly habitat in 2016. To that end, prairie restoration work continues with the planting of prairie flower seed and native prairie grass. Each summer this area is abloom with colorful prairie flowers – and butterflies.
