The juicy sweetness of strawberries. The crisp tartness of apples. Learn how to transform summer’s healthy and delicious fruit into homemade jams and jellies at a special class dedicated to easy canning methods. Buena Vista County Naturalist Katie Struss is an experienced canner and will teach Canning 101: Jams and Jellies on Saturday, June 23. The class will start at 2 p.m. in the Shelter House at Gabrielson Park. Struss will introduce students to canning equipment and supplies, and share her recipes for a variety of fruit preserves. The class will include taste-testing of handcrafted jams and jellies. Reservations are required for this program by Thursday, June 21st. The RSVP contact the conservation office at 712-295-7985.
