Kanoe Kids #4 (Completed: 6th grade & up)
Rock Creek Marina & Campground, Clinton County
Tuesday, July 24, 2018
Spend the night under the stars along a river during this overnight Kanoe Kids Camp. This camp is designated for children who have completed 6th grade and beyond.
Campers will spend DAY 1 (9:30 am - 2:30 pm) at the Rock Creek Marina & Campground learning the basics of river paddling, packing (less is more) a dry bag (provided), loading/unloading a canoe, setting up/tearing down camp, preparing meals, etc.
On DAY 2 campers will pack up their gear and head out on an overnight river adventure. (Which river is determined by water levels closer to the camp date. It will be in or near Clinton County. Most years we spend the night on a high sandbar). On DAY 3, campers will cook their breakfast, pack-up camp, pack up canoes to head down river to the take-out to be at Rock Creek by 2:30 PM.
We know that it is hard to let your child go on a "wilderness" trip. There are going to be 3 trained and experienced naturalists (2 female, 1 male) leading this trip. Your child's safety is of utmost importance to us. This experience allows your child to grow. They have to be a team player, they are responsible for themselves and others while traveling in a canoe. They are responsible for the things they bring, the things they borrow from us and the necessities (they get a gallon of water they must manage). It is rewarding to see your children's strengths, help them with their weaknesses, and play like a child (building a sandcastle, catching minnows and fish, playing in the mud, etc)
