Youth Ice Age Backpacking Trip (Ages 12-17)

Spend 2 nights and 3 days hiking, camping and exploring the Ice Age Trail in Wisconsin. This is for children 12-17 years old. There is a mandatory pre-trip meeting on July 7th.
Do you know someone between 12-17 years of age? Do they like the outdoors and hiking? If the answer for these questions is yes, sign them up for the Ice Age Trail Backpacking Trip on July 11-13 by contacting Jackson County Conservation at 563-652-3783 or jwagner@jacksoncounty.iowa.gov. Mandatory pre-trip meeting is 9am-noon at the Hurstville Interpretive Center on Friday, July 7th to receive a pack and other equipment. The cost of the trip is $50. The Ice Age Trail is a 1200 mile National Scenic Trail that traverses Wisconsin. This group will hike 10ish miles in Chippewa County carrying gear in a hiking backpack, tent camping along the way, filtering water, cooking over stoves and immersing themselves in the outdoors. Trip will be led by staff with Clinton, Dubuque, and Jackson County Conservation Departments. Backpacks, tents, food, cookstoves and other gear will be provided. Youth will need to bring their own clothing, good hiking shoes, and other personal gear. At the mandatory meeting, participants will meet each other and the leaders, learn more about the gear we will be using , review the packing list, select a fitted backpack to take home to pack their things and ask questions. The backpacking trip will begin on the morning of Tuesday, July 11. Youth can meet a Naturalist at select locations in Clinton, Jackson and Dubuque Counties. On Tuesday we will hike a short distance to our first campsite. After breakfast and packing up, we will head to our next campsite on Wednesday. On Thursday, we will pack up for the last time and hike to our vehicles and drive home.
