Invasive Spieces Removal Day

Starr's Cave Park and Preserve, Des Moines County

Saturday, March 25, 2023

Des Moines County Conservation will be hosting an Invasive Species Removal Day on March 25th at Starr’s Cave Park and Preserve. During this event, participants will have the opportunity to be hands-on in removing invasive species out in the park. Invasive species are non-native plants, animals, or other living things that thrive in areas where they do not naturally live and cause competition with native wildlife and habitats.  The event will begin at 10:00 a.m. and end at 12:00 p.m. The main invasive species that will be the focus of removal for this event include oriental bittersweet and bush honeysuckle. Participants will be instructed on the proper techniques for removing the invasive and given the tools to successfully remove them. There is no registration or fee required to join this event. If participants have PPE, like eye protection and gloves, they are encouraged to bring it as we have a limited supply to lend out. Please dress for the weather and look at the Starr’s Cave Nature Center Facebook page for event changes and cancelations or call Starr’s Cave Nature Center at (319)753-5808.
