Mussels & Sand Mounds: Muscatine Day Trip

Hurstville Interpretive Center, Jackson County

Friday, April 3, 2020

The National Pearl Button Museum tells the story of the pearl button industry at the turn of the 20th century. Following the museum tour, we’ll have a picnic lunch and nature center tour at the Muscatine County Conservation Environment Learning Center. The afternoon will take us on a guided hike to Big Mound Sand Preserve. Formed nearly 20,000 years ago by ice sheets, it looks more like the Southwest than the Midwest, because of its acres of sand prairies. RSVP required. Cost is $5/person. Bring your own sack lunch/beverage. Dress for the weather and be prepared to walk outdoors. Carpooling available.
