Friday, July 15, 2022

Join the Jones & Jackson County Conservation Staff on Friday, July 15th for “Paddling the Wapsi” an Older Livelier Wiser Souls (OWLs) event.

Enjoy the scenic summer sights and sounds of the wild Wapsipinicon River as we paddle 8.9 miles beginning below the dam in Anamosa to the Newport Mills River Access.

Bring your kayak or canoe, paddles, pfd’s, dry bags, extra dry clothing, aquatic footwear, sunscreen, sunglasses, and drinking water

Begin the day at 8:30 AM at the Wapsipinicon State Park Access below the dam to drop off watercraft. Drivers will then meet at 9 AM at the Newport Mills River Access to drop off vehicles and ride shuttles back to the put-in site. Introductions and a short safety talk will precede putting in on the Wapsi to begin paddling at 10 AM.

Bring a sack lunch to eat on a sandbar or visit an area restaurant following the paddle event.
