Youth Backpacking Trip

Event Summary

Introductory backpacking trip for youth ages 13-17. Youth will hike 20+ miles on a 3-day/2-night backpacking trip. We will camp in tents, cook food using backpacking stoves, and have fun immersing ourselves in the outdoors. This trip is for youth that want to experience an outdoor hiking and camping multi-day trip.

Deadline to apply for trip is APRIL 15.

Youth will be notified by the end of April if they have been selected to attend this trip or not. If selected, payment ($50) and a medical form will be required by May 15.

Location: Yellow River State Forest

Ages: 13-17

Dates: June 25-27, 2024 (~8 am Tuesday to ~4 pm Thursday/trip begins and ends at Swiss Valley Nature Center; carpooling available from the Hurstville Interpretive Center).

Mandatory pre-trip meeting is Monday, June 17 from 1:00-4:00 PM - Location TBD (in Jackson or Dubuque Co).

This backpacking trip is led by staff with Dubuque & Jackson County Conservation departments.
