Monarch Tagging

JOHNSON COUNTY EDUCATION PROGRAMS, Johnson County

Wednesday, September 28, 2022

Come take part in citizen science and Monarch Butterfly conservation! We need volunteers to help us catch as many wild monarch butterflies as we can. This effort is an important push to gather as much data as we can about monarch butterfly migration. The small tags (tiny stickers) label each butterfly with a unique number. Tagged butterflies will journey 2,000 miles to their winter home in Mexico. We will supply nets – but we need you! Events dependent on weather conditions. Updates will be shared via email with all registered participants.

There are limited facilities at this location - no restroom or running water at the site. There is currently a grassy area sectioned off for parking.

Registration closes 24 hours in advance.

If you are fully registered, you can expect to receive an email "receipt" from MyCountyParks after registration. You will also receive an email from the leading naturalist a couple days in advance of the program. If you do not receive these emails, you may not be registered; call 319-645-1011 for assistance in this case.
