JCC Seed Harvest - by Kayak!
JOHNSON COUNTY EDUCATION PROGRAMS, Johnson County
Wednesday, October 9, 2024
This special seed harvest event will take place by kayak to harvest buttonbush from the slough!
This week, our focus will be Buttonbush growing at Pechman slough. This submerged plant is easiest reached by kayak, which is how we'll harvest it! In No special training is required for this event, nor prior experience. Instruction and species ID tips will be provided at the start of the program. Kayaks and gear provided.
Volunteers should wear clothes that can get wet and muddy. There is a half mile hike from the parking area to the put-in at the slough.
Pack a set of hand clippers if available. JCC will provide collection buckets.
Volunteers are welcome to take a small amount of seed home for their own native gardens/plantings.
Seed harvests are dependent on weather, dry seed conditions, and seeds ready to harvest. We will cancel if seed is too wet from recent rain.
Registration automatically closes one day in advance. If you are fully registered, you can expect to receive an email "receipt" from MyCountyParks after registration. You will also receive an email from the leading naturalist a couple days in advance of the program. If you do not receive these emails, you may not be registered; call 319-645-1011 for assistance in this case.
