JCC Seed Harvest
JOHNSON COUNTY EDUCATION PROGRAMS, Johnson County
Sunday, November 3, 2024
Help JCC collect native prairie and wetland seed to be used for JCC ecosystem restoration projects in the county.
This event will start at the High Point Parking Area in F.W. Kent Park. The JCC Natural Resource Crew will provide instruction and background.
No special training is required for this event, nor prior experience. Instruction and species ID tips will be provided at the start of the program. This event is great for all ages, including families with kids that want to try out seed harvesting.
Volunteers should wear pants, closed-toe shoes, and pack a long-sleeve option for work in the prairie. Volunteers can expect to walk off-trail into tall vegetation and work on uneven terrain.
Pack work gloves and a set of hand clippers if available. JCC will provide collection buckets or bags.
Volunteers are welcome to take a small amount of seed home for their own native gardens/plantings.
Seed harvests are dependent on weather and dry seed conditions. We will cancel if seed is too wet from recent rain.
Registration automatically closes one day in advance. If you are fully registered, you can expect to receive an email "receipt" from MyCountyParks after registration. You will also receive an email from the leading naturalist a couple days in advance of the program. If you do not receive these emails, you may not be registered; call 319-645-1011 for assistance in this case.
JCC is committed to providing equal opportunity for participation in all programs, services and activities. We welcome and encourage people with disabilities to attend programs and events. Accommodations may be requested by contacting naturalist staff at 319-645-1011 or jccnaturalists@gmail.com
