LINN COUNTY, IA – June 13, 2018 – Linn County Conservation Board and
staff will celebrate the latest addition to Wickiup Hill: Wickiup’s Wandering Woods, a children’s outdoor natural playscape:
WHEN: Friday, June 22
1pm
WHERE: Wickiup Hill Outdoor Learning Area
10260 Morris Hills Road
Toddville, Iowa 52341
WHY:
Over two years of planning and
construction has taken place to create Wickiup’s Wandering Woods, nestled along
the woodlands and a wetland at Wickiup Hill.
This new outdoor natural playscape
allows children of all ages to use their imagination and creativity in
experiencing a greater appreciation for the outdoors and the environment.
This new and
unique playscape is nearly in acre in size, featuring an abundance of natural
elements for unstructured play and healthy activities. Play features include natural building
materials, water play, music and dramatic play, climb and balance, messy
materials, and ADA accessible features. Although
the site opened to the public late last fall, the final elements were added
this spring, including a new deck overlooking the wetland, a zip-line, and
sitting benches.
SCHEDULE FOR THE CELEBRATION: A brief program at the deck located in the center of
Wickiup’s Wandering Woods will detail the components of this playscape from its
creation, as well as highlight the importance of further engaging the next
generation to connect with nature.
Linn County
Conservation would also like to thank the community for their ongoing support. Private
donations, along with federal and local grants, have been instrumental in
funding this project.
