Take a Walk on the WILD Side: Wildflower Hike at Hitaga Sand Ridge Prairie Preserve

Hitaga Sand Ridge Prairie Preserve, Linn County

Wednesday, May 25, 2022

For this Walk on the Wild Side, we will see prickly pear cactus and will likely see several species of puccoons as well as other prairie plant species.  With some luck we should have interesting butterflies to view.  We will visit the Preserve with the guidance of Frank Olson, local botanical and butterfly expert and Chuck Ungs, LCCD Naturalist.  The Preserve is located at 2727 Wapsi Ridge Dr, Walker, IA 52352.  Hitaga is a 156 acre prairie preserve in northern Linn County. It contains a very large glacial erratic and is home to threatened wildlife and plant species such as the ornate box turtle and prickly pear cactus. Not particularly kid friendly due to obstacles. This event is free, but registration is requested to keep the size of group small.
