Just a Walk in the Park Series: Part 4 - Skunk Cabbage Bushwhacking at Wickiup Hill Natural Area

Wickiup Hill Natural Area, Linn County

Thursday, March 11, 2021

Join us on a hike as we take an excursion to view an amazing plant that grows nearby! We will wander off trail for this adventure hike into an ancient valley near the Cedar River.  Spring will be near and the valley we will visit is deep enough that most sunlight will still be excluded from the forest floor.  There are always many wonders to enjoy as we immerse ourselves in the unique valley we will visit. Expect to experience a variety of flora and fauna along the way. We will share the joy of hunting for a special plant that is able to generate its own heat - enough so that it can bloom in winter and can melt the snow around it.  Many other interesting plants are in the area and we will examine what we can see.  This is a strenuous hike there and back again, as such one should consider the age and physical shape of anyone signing up.  Very limited group size due to Covid concerns, wear masks as needed and bring hand sani for your groups use. Cost $2.50 per adult.   The parking lot is located near the Waltonian Archers and is at 3900 Wickiup Hill Road, Toddville, IA, 52341.
