Big Red, Thor, and the gang are helping CD107.7 FM and Lite 104.9 get ready for the 3rd Annual Hiney Wine & Arts Festival that will be held from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M on Saturday, October 6th at the Historical Kirchner Park in Peterson, Iowa.  Join them for a day of fun that is so much more than just a wine festival.  There will also be exhibits featuring arts, crafts, wood working, metal works, food, and so much more.

No need to worry about parking, Main Street in Beautiful Downtown Peterson offers plenty of parking for everyone.  Hop on the Peterson Lions Club’s People Haulers, you may have seen them at the Clay County Fair, and thanks in part to donations and the Peterson Lions Club you can enjoy a free ride to the Historical Kirchner Park while also offering stops at many other locations throughout town.

One of the stops the People Haulers will be making is at Jim Haas’ History Barn and Museum located east of the park. Visit this vintage barn with an enormous collection of memorabilia from our country’s wars and local artifacts.  You will have the opportunity to see everything from vintage tools, toys, and clothing, to Indian artifacts and even a human skeleton! Jim Hass took this project on and has totally restored the barn to enable people to see and learn about the history of the area.

Beautiful downtown Peterson, Iowa also offers much to see and enjoy while you’re visiting.  Barb McGee’s Gallery, also participating in the Artisans Roadshow taking place October 6-7, will be open for your liking.  Of course Barb will be showcasing her wonderful works, but stop in to see so many other artists’ works offering such a wide variety of mediums all under one roof.

One of the newest additions to Peterson’s Main Street is RePeterson, located in the Historical 1882 Boarding House.  Pat Sickelka and Cherie Winterboer will be open showcasing their wide variety of items from antique furniture, dishes, local works, and so much more.  While you’re there don’t forget your Hiney.  That's right, visitors to the lovely town of Peterson can finally get their hands on a little Hiney Wine.

Lon’s Lounge will be serving up suds, the game, and an Award Winning Burger!  Start the morning off with breakfast being served from 7 A.M. to 11 A.M.  For lunch, you should stop in for one of their Award Winning Burgers!  This spring KICD AM hosted a Best Burger Contest and Lon’s Lounge was awarded the honor of one of the Top 3 Choices by their listeners.  Had so much fun in Peterson?  They will be serving their Best In Clay County 3-Meat Supper Buffet, traditionally held every first and third Saturday of each month.  On Saturday, October 6th, Lon's Lounge will be celebrating October Fest and their 3-Meat Buffet with feature Traditional German Food!

On your way to or from Peterson, take a little trip west on Highway 10 and the Glacial Trail Scenic Byway to the Prairie Heritage Center.  The Prairie Heritage Center will be open for your enjoyment from 1 P.M. to 4 P.M. so that you are able to take in the history of the prairie, the beautiful colors that fall is sprinkling throughout the Little Sioux River valley, Nature’s Gallery 2012, featuring many local artist, and the Birding Bonanza Exhibit in the lower level.  Fun For All Ages!

And the entire weekend can be spent at the fabulous O’Brien County Parks.  The O’Brien County Conservation Board has announced that they will be extending their all access camping (water, electric, etc. where available) at Dog Creek Park, located southeast of Sutherland and west of Peterson, and at Mill Creek Park, located east of Paullina throughout the first weekend of October.

Sounds like a great way to spend the weekend and there’s a little something for everyone to enjoy!
