Jester Park Shelter 3

Jester Park Shelter #3 is an open air, accessible shelter that sits in the hub of the park.  Mature oaks and hickories are found at this shelter to shade you from the afternoon sun. A modern restroom and playground are within walking distance from this shelter.  Electricity is available at this shelter. Water is available from mid-April through mid-October.


Reservations may be made up to 2 years but must be made a minimum of 5 days in advance of the date of reservation. For example, to make a Saturday reservation, you must reserve the facility no later than Tuesday of that week.

Directions: You will come to a Y intersection approximately one mile into the park.  At the Y intersection go right.  Shelter #3 will be the first shelter you come to and will be to your right.

Fees

Reservation Fee: $60

  • Only one reservation is allowed per day, per shelter.

Advance Booking Requirement:

  • Reservations may be made up to TWO YEARS to date in advance.
  • Reservations must be made at least 5 days in advance.

Alcohol/beer/wine Restrictions:

  • If beer or wine is present at the facility, rental must be in the name of a person who is 21 years of age or older who will be present at the facility for the full term of the reservation. No other type of alcoholic beverage is allowed. 
  • Any renter having keg beer is required to pay a $100 deposit to the Ranger on the day of the event and prior to the beginning of the event.

Youth Group Discounts: An organized youth group may reserve shelters at a discounted rate.  Please contact the Polk County Conservation Office at (515) 323-5300 for more information on how to receive the discount.

Hours of Operation & Seasons

April 15 through October 15

  • Reservations allowed.
  • One may utilize the shelter from 10:00 AM to 10:30 p.m.
  • If the shelter is not reserved for a particular date, it is available on a first-come basis.

Closures

October 16 through April 15 

  • No reservations allowed. Exceptions will be made for those events with a Special Event Permit. More information can be found on the facilities tab of our website: www.leadingyououtdoors.org.
  • All shelters may be used free of charge on a first come, first serve basis during park hours.
 

Permits

Alcohol/beer/wine:

  • Any renter having keg beer or an equivalent quantity of beer, wine and/or champagne is required to pay a deposit of $100 by marking box at check-out. A check made out to Polk County Conservation will need to be given to Park Ranger on the day of the event.

Special Events: 

  • Special Event Permit Application must be completed for things such as dunk tanks; carnivals; erecting large tents; horse-drawn carriages; generators; power saws; chain saws; power tools of any kind; public address system whether fixed, portable or vehicular-mounted; inflatable bouncers; smoker grills; extra picnic tables; extra parking; or weddings.
  • Polk County Conservation Board's liability insurance excludes the use of aircraft on park property including hot-air balloons, planes, helicopters, ultra-lights, and parachutes.
  • Special events require a 45-day prior approval.
