Beginning September 3, 2024 the shower house will be closed. Camping will remain open and a portable restroom will be offered in the campground.

 

This site has electricity and is a graveled, back-in campsite nestled amongst mature oak, maple and ash trees.  The close proximity to the Des Moines makes this camp area a popular spot.

 

Sites may be reserved up to one-year in advance. All Thomas Mitchell campsites require online reservations prior to setting up camping unit.

We have a limited refund policy; however, if you need to change your reservation you have one opportunity to reschedule if completed at least 7 days prior to stay. Details regarding the advance notification requirement, change and cancellation fees can be found in the Facility Contract accepted at time of booking.

Fees

Electric Camping rate: $25/per night

 

Capacity: maximum number of people allowed to camp at site is 6 people.

Reservations may be made up to ONE YEAR to date in advance.

Minimum stay required for advance reservations:  

Daily - 1 night minimum;  

Holiday weekends - 3 night minimum

Hours of Operation & Seasons

Summer Hours: 6:30 a.m. - 10:30 p.m.

Winter Hours: Sunrise to sunset  

Upon entering park after hours, vehicle may be stopped by ranger requesting their campsite number and name of the party registered to the site.

April 1 through November 30

·        Reservations are required for all sites at Thomas Mitchell.

·        Water and modern restroom/shower facilities are guaranteed to be open 4/15-10/15. These facilities may open earlier and stay open later depending on weather conditions.  

 

Closures

December 1 through March 31

·        Gravel roads in camp areas closed to vehicular traffic. Shower house is closed.

·        Only hike-in tent camping is available at this time. Campers must self-register at the campground kiosk within one hour of setting up camp.

Permits

We require that you post your camping receipt on site marker provided.
