Join presenter Laura Friesell for a unique, hands-on program and learn how to navigate in the great outdoors without Google Maps! Join us for this new program, presented in two sessions at Hitchcock Nature Center. Your registration for this event covers admission to BOTH SESSIONS.

Session 1 will be held Tuesday, April 23rd at 6:30 p.m.

Session 2 will be held Saturday, April 27th at 12:00 p.m.

Students will learn basic principles of map & compass navigation during Tuesday evening's 2.5 hour classroom session. Topics will include how to read, interpret, & navigate a topographic map, how to identify parts of a compass, & how to use a compass in conjunction with a topographic map.Saturday's 4 hour session will include a 1 hour refresher of Tuesday's skills then students will head outdoors. The remaining class will put into practice the indoor learning as students navigate the Loess Hills at Hitchcock Nature Center with their topographic maps & compasses.

This program is being presented as part of our adult education programming, attendees must be age 14 & over to attend. Cost for this program is $20.00 per student and includes both the Tuesday, April 23rd & the Saturday, April 27th program sessions, all program materials, & admission to the park both days. Online pre-registration is required by Friday, April 19th as space is limited. Walk in participants will not be admitted.

Please Note: This program requires a minimum number of registered participants to proceed. If we do not reach our required minimum this program will be cancelled & refunds issued to registered participants. 

CANCELLATION POLICY
Guests may cancel their reservation for a full refund up to 1 week (7 days) prior to the date of the first programming session by calling 712-545-3283 & speaking with staff directly. Cancellations made less than 1 week (7 days) in advance will not be refunded. Please Note, if minimum attendance numbers are not met by April 19th this program will be cancelled and refunds issued to all registered participants. 

Participants should note this program will be held at Hitchcock Nature Center. Saturday's programming session will include pedestrian travel over difficult terrain which may, at times be physically challenging. This program will be held outdoors, rain or shine. Water bottles, bug spray, & sunblock are all recommended, please dress for the weather & wear appropriate footwear.

This event is not pet friendly, please leave your dogs at home. Service animals are always welcome. Weather Permitting.
