Native Earth Skills: Spring Herb & Tree Walk

Join Naturalist & experienced Native Earth Skills practitioner Dustin Clayton at Hitchcock Nature Center on Saturday, April 27th at 10:00 a.m. as he leads a guided hike through the Loess Hills. This unique event will focus on native culture's historic & pre-historic reliance on and relationship with the earth & its natural resources.
Our April 27th program will focus on medicinal plants and the mythology of trees as Dustin leads participants through the park on a guided hike. Participants will develop plant identification skills and learn more about the special relationship between plants and humans.
This program is being presented as part of our adult education programming, participants must be 16 & over. This program is free with paid park admission or a valid annual park permit. Online pre-registration is required by Wednesday, April 24th as space is limited.
Participants should note this program will be held at Hitchcock Nature Center & will include pedestrian travel over difficult terrain. This program will be held outdoors, rain or shine. Water bottles, bug spray, & sunblock are all recommended, please dress for the weather & wear appropriate footwear. Students may also find it helpful to bring a notebook & pen, binoculars, & a camera for use during the program. Participants must purchase a $3.00 per vehicle daily entrance pass or have a Pottawattamie Conservation Foundation membership to attend this program. Daily entrance passes may be purchased with exact change or check at the front gate & may be purchased the day of the event. Annual memberships may be purchased for $20.00 from staff at any of our parks, at the Loess Hills Lodge at Hitchcock Nature Center during regular business hours, or online at www.pottawattamieconservationfoundation.com. There is no additional fee to attend this program, free will donations are encouraged and will support continued programming opportunities in Pottawattamie County.
This event is not pet friendly; please leave your dogs at home. Service animals are always welcome. Weather Permitting.
