Join Naturalist & experienced Native Earth Skills practitioner Dustin Clayton at Hitchcock Nature Center on Saturday, August 3rd at 9:00 a.m. for an informative program on the crafting of stone tools. 

Explore several types of neolithic stone ground axe/adze types with a brief discussion of manufacturing processing, hafting techniques, material selection, utility, stone tool design across cultures, time periods, & geographic locations. Following the discussion participants will have the opportunity to work on making a pecked & ground stone axe blade similar to the type used by the native people of this region around 1000 years ago. 

Please Note: Attendees will be required to wear a dust mask & safety goggles to participate. Some will be provided but feel free to bring your own if you have them. This program is being presented as part of our adult education programming, participants must be 18 & over. 

Cost for this program is $25.00 per person & includes park admission & materials. Online pre-registration is required by Wednesday, July 31st as space is limited. This program will be held outdoors, rain or shine. Water bottles, bug spray, & sunblock are all recommended, please dress for the weather & wear closed toe shoes. For questions not answered online please call 712-545-3283, reservations will not be taken over the phone.

CANCELLATION POLICY
Guests may cancel their reservation for a full refund up to 1 week (7 days) prior to the program date by calling 712-545-3283 & speaking with staff directly. Cancellations made less than 1 week (7 days) in advance of the program date will not be refunded. Programs cancelled by PCC for any reason will be refunded.​

This event is not pet friendly; please leave your dogs at home. Service animals are always welcome. Weather Permitting.
