ATTENTION:

In an effort to help slow the spread of COVID-19, we have updated our program format. Our programs originally scheduled for March 21st & April 11th will now be presented together & online on June 6th. This program will be presented entirely online.

An additional online program will be held on June 27th & will cover our topics originally scheduled for May & June. Our July 11th program will return us to our regular schedule & may be held online or in person as conditions allow.

Join us for an online program with presenter Ron Cisar on Saturday, June 6th at 9:00 a.m.  as we celebrate the life & legacy of famous naturalist & philosopher Aldo Leopold.

Our June 6th session will include discussion & outdoor exploration ideas that can be done as self-guided activities either at home or at the outdoor space of your choice. This program will focus on Leopold's essays "The Geese Return"  & "Bur Oak" from his classic work "A Sand County Almanac". Participants in this session will study & learn to identify various species of geese & spring wildflowers, the basics of beginning & keeping a personal nature journal, how to watch for & identify nature's seasonal changes, & much more as we work toward a greater understanding of Leopold & his philosophies. 

This program is intended for participants age 14 & over with an interest in the natural world, no experience or prior knowledge is required to participate. Online pre-registration is required as space is limited. For questions not answered online please call 712-545-3283.

Cost for this program is $10.00 per person per individual session. & includes admission to the park for all on-site programs. 

Participants may opt to register for the entire 10 program/8 session season for $75.00. Full season registration includes admission to the park for all on-site programs as well as a copy of "A Sand County Almanac" & a hardback journal. *Participants do not need to attend every session to enjoy this programming series.

About "A Land Ethic Workshop"

"A Land Ethic Workshop" will focus on the work & life of naturalist & Iowa native Aldo Leopold. Each month participants will explore a new work by Leopold coupled with hands on activities such as hikes, aquatic studies, guest lectures, sketching, journaling and more.

Programs are from 9:00 a.m. to noon & occur through December. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic this program's structure has been altered with two online programs, remaining programs may be held in person at Hitchcock Nature Center if the situation allows or will be held in our online format if necessary.

Participants should note that classes held online will require an internet connection & the use of Zoom, programs held in person will be held at Hitchcock Nature Center & will at times require pedestrian travel over difficult terrain; some sessions may be physically challenging. Portions of each session will occur outdoors, students should come prepared for the weather & the elements.

CANCELLATION POLICY
Guests may cancel their reservation for a full refund up to 1 week (7 days) prior to the first day of the event by calling 712-545-3283 & speaking with staff directly. Cancellations received less than 7 days in advance of the event will not be refunded. Program fees for events cancelled by Pottawattamie Conservation for any reason will be refunded. 

This event is not pet friendly, service animals are always welcome.
