Join us at Hitchcock Nature Center on Saturday, April 11th at 9:00 a.m. for the April session of a new 2020 programming series, "A Land Ethic Workshop". Join instructor Ron Cisar as we celebrate the life & legacy of famous naturalist & philosopher Aldo Leopold.

Our April 11th session will focus on Leopold's essay "Bur Oak" from his classic work "A Sand County Almanac" & will feature guest speaker Mary Garabrandt, Associate Professor Emeritus with Iowa Western Community College. Participants in this session will study & learn:

  • To identify & recognize early species of spring wildflowers in the Loess Hills
  • Nature's changes that you can watch for during the month of April
  • Continued nature journaling experience

Participants will also take to the Hitchcock trails for a short hike to explore the signs of the season before ending the day with a song.

This program is intended for participants age 14 & over with an interest in the natural world, no experience or prior knowledge is required to participate. Online pre-registration is required as space is limited. For questions not answered online please call 712-545-3283. Cost for this program is $15.00 per person per individual session, or, participants may register for the entire 10-session season at the discounted price of $75.00. To register for the full programming series please return to the programming list & select "A Land Ethic Workshop - 10 session series". *Participants do not need to attend every session to enjoy this programming series.

About "A Land Ethic Workshop"

"A Land Ethic Workshop" will focus on the work & life of naturalist & Iowa native Aldo Leopold. Each month participants will explore a new work by Leopold coupled with hands on activities such as hikes, aquatic studies, guest lectures, sketching, journaling and more. Programs are from 9:00 a.m. to noon & occur monthly March through December & are held at Hitchcock Nature Center. Participants may register for individual sessions or opt to attend all 2020 sessions. Participants do not need to attend every program session. Individual sessions are $15.00 per person & our full programming series of 10 sessions is $75.00.

Participants should note that classes will be held at Hitchcock Nature Center & will at times require pedestrian travel over difficult terrain; some sessions may be physically challenging. Portions of each session will occur outdoors, students should come prepared for the weather & the elements.

CANCELLATION POLICY
Guests may cancel their reservation for a full refund up to 1 week (7 days) prior to the first day of the event by calling 712-545-3283 & speaking with staff directly. Cancellations received less than 7 days in advance of the event will not be refunded. Program fees for events cancelled by Pottawattamie Conservation for any reason will be refunded.
