ATTENTION:

In an effort to help slow the spread of COVID-19, we have updated our program format. Our programs originally scheduled for March 21st, April 11th, May 9th & June 7th were presented online. Our July 11th program will return us to our regular schedule & will be held in person at Hitchcock Nature Center. Programs will be held in person at Hitchcock Nature Center through the end of the year if conditions allow. Join us at Hitchcock Nature Center for our 2020 programming series, "A Land Ethic Workshop". Join instructor Ron Cisar as we celebrate the life & legacy of famous naturalist & philosopher Aldo Leopold through a series of monthly programs. Each monthly program will feature a different work of Leopold's coupled with nature exploration & learning. 

Each month participants will explore a new work by Leopold coupled with hands on activities such as:

  • Guided hikes
  • Aquatic studies
  • Plant & animal identification skills
  • Nature journaling & writing techniques
  • Nature photography
  • Guest lectures
  • And Much More!!

These programs are intended for participants age 14 & over with an interest in the natural world, no experience or prior knowledge is required to participate. Online pre-registration is required as space is limited. For questions not answered online please call 712-545-3283.

Participants may register for the entire 10 program/8 class session series for $75.00 per person. Participants who register for the entire programming series will receive a copy of "A Sand County Almanac" & a hardbound journal as part of their registration package. Participants may also choose to register for individual sessions at a cost of $15.00 per person per session. Registration at either level includes park admission for all on-site programs. To register for individual sessions please return to the program listing & select you session of interest.  *Participants do not need to attend every session to enjoy this programming series.

A Land Ethic Workshop programs are held online or in person at Hitchcock Nature Center, from 9:00 a.m. to noon once a month.

Participants should note that in person classes will be held at Hitchcock Nature Center & will at times require pedestrian travel over difficult terrain; some sessions may be physically challenging. Portions of each session will occur outdoors, students should come prepared for the weather & the elements. Attendance numbers for these programs have been reduced & all participants are asked to wear a mask, both inside and out, maintain six feet of social distancing, and use the hand sanitizer station at the entrance of the building. We will be outside on the trails for much of this program, so dress appropriately. Sunscreen and bug spray are advised.

CANCELLATION POLICY
Guests may cancel their reservation for a full refund up to 1 week (7 days) prior to the first day of the event by calling 712-545-3283 & speaking with staff directly. Cancellations received less than 7 days in advance of the event will not be refunded. Program fees for events cancelled by Pottawattamie Conservation for any reason will be refunded.
